Description

Hablar de gustos is a complete 5 page A1 Spanish lesson designed to help learners understand and use gustar and other verbs that follow a similar structure, with examples and activities based largely on professional and business situations.

The lesson begins with a clear explanation in English of why gustar works differently from the English verb to like. Students learn the relationship between the person who experiences the preference, the indirect object pronoun and the thing that is liked, with contrasts such as me gusta el libro and me gustan los libros.

Students then learn how to clarify or emphasise the person with structures such as a mí, a ti, a él, a ella, a nosotros and a ellos, before extending the same construction to encantar.

A comprehensive reference table provides the forms needed to use gustar and encantar with different people, singular and plural nouns and infinitives. The lesson also introduces the very useful conversational responses a mí también, a mí tampoco, a mí sí and a mí no.

The practice section moves the grammar into a professional context. Students work with vocabulary relating to managers, clients, accountants, sales teams, investors, marketing, international trade, business expansion, risk analysis and professional relationships. Activities include matching exercises, sentence completion and responding to other people’s opinions.

The final communicative activity considerably expands the grammar beyond gustar. Students complete a table about themselves and a colleague using verbs and expressions including interesar, importar, molestar, caer bien o mal, convencer, beneficiar, dar miedo, parecer, fascinar, faltar, impresionar, costar, aburrir, fastidiar, preocupar, entristecer and alegrar.

Complete answers are provided for the controlled exercises, making the resource suitable for teacher led classes as well as revision and independent practice.
