A structured route from beginner Spanish to advanced professional communication

The Legal and Professional Spanish Programme offers live online courses for adults who need Spanish for legal, business, financial, diplomatic and public sector contexts.

Students enter the programme at the stage appropriate to their existing Spanish. You do not need to begin with Spanish from Zero if you already have previous knowledge.

HOW THE PROGRAMME WORKS

The programme begins with a common Legal and Business Spanish pathway:

• Spanish from Zero for Legal and Business Contexts

• Post Beginners Legal and Business Spanish

• Intermediate Legal and Business Spanish

At the advanced stage, students choose one of three professional specialisations:

• Advanced Legal Spanish

• Advanced Spanish for Finance and Banking

• Advanced Spanish for Diplomats and Civil Servants

Each course consists of three terms of ten weeks each. Each term includes ten live online lessons. Registration and payment cover one term at a time. Students may take the first term and then choose whether to continue, with each subsequent term requiring separate registration and payment.

PROGRESSION AND STUDY TIME

The programme offers courses at different stages, from complete beginner to advanced professional Spanish. Each course provides thirty hours of live tuition across three terms, but completing a course does not automatically mean that a student is ready for the next stage. Progression depends on meeting the next course’s entry requirements and may involve substantial additional study, practice and tuition. The pathway does not represent a route from zero to C1 or CEREL readiness within 120 teaching hours. CEREL is a separate, optional examination, and readiness depends on the candidate’s advanced Legal Spanish ability.

OPTIONAL CEREL EXAMINATION

Students following the Advanced Legal Spanish route may choose to take CEREL, a separate examination of advanced Legal Spanish.

CEREL requires separate registration and payment. Completing the course does not automatically award the CEREL certificate or guarantee a particular examination result.

CEREL is independently developed and is not an official or externally accredited qualification. More information is available at cerel.online.

HOW TO ENROL

Choose the course that best matches your current Spanish and professional objectives. Full course information, including entry requirements, dates and times, is available on each individual course page.

If you are uncertain about the appropriate course, complete our free Spanish level assessment and contact us to arrange a short oral assessment by telephone or Zoom.

If you are confident about your level, complete the enrolment form on the relevant course page.

Places are limited to six students. Registration is confirmed after payment has been received. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Spanish in The City® does not receive or retain your card details.

SMALL-GROUP TEACHING

Each scheduled course has a maximum of six participants. Small groups provide more opportunities to speak, participate in professional discussions and receive immediate individual feedback from the tutor.

ALL COURSE MATERIALS INCLUDED

All course materials are included in the course fee and supplied electronically before each lesson.

Materials may include PDF lesson documents, audio recordings, professional texts, vocabulary and grammar activities, comprehension exercises, case studies, discussion tasks and links to interactive online activities.

The courses integrate listening, reading, speaking and writing. Examples of the materials used are available in the Resources section.

LIVE ONLINE ACCESS

Lessons are delivered live through Zoom. Before the course begins, students receive the Zoom invitation, course syllabus and materials for the first lesson by email.

Students need a reliable internet connection and a device with a working microphone. A camera is recommended to support interaction during the lessons.

Lessons are not recorded.

PRICE

£400 | $530 | €465 per person per 10-week term.

The fee includes ten live 60 minute lessons and all course materials.
