How can candidates assess their level?

Candidates can complete a free assessment, including a multiple-choice test and an oral evaluation by phone or Zoom.

What is the difference between scheduled courses and bespoke courses?

Bespoke courses are tailored for company teams, allowing colleagues to agree on their learning objectives and schedule together. Scheduled courses, by contrast, are open to the general public and run on fixed dates and times.

How do I enrol in a course?

For bespoke courses, we agree on a start date and send a confirmation email with the session link. For scheduled courses, enrolment is completed through a form next to the course description.

How are payments processed?

After the first lesson, we issue an invoice for 10 sessions. Payment is due within 30 days and can be made by bank transfer or card. No VAT is charged.

Does Spanish in The City offer official accreditation?

No. Spanish in The City is not an accredited awarding body and does not issue recognized certification. Students who attend at least 7 out of 10 lessons may, however, request a personalised statement of attendance. This can be useful for professional development records or employer/course applications, but it is not an official qualification.

Where are the lessons conducted?

All lessons are delivered online. A unique video link is sent before each session.

Which platforms are used for lessons?

Zoom is used for scheduled courses. Bespoke courses may use Zoom, Skype, Teams, or WebEx, depending on your preference.

Are cameras required during sessions?

Camera use by students is optional. The instructor will always use a camera during sessions.

Are sessions recorded?

No. Lessons are not recorded, and recording by participants is not allowed.

What teaching method is used?

Teaching follows a post-method approach, prioritising informed pedagogical decisions over rigid methodologies. Course content and techniques are continuously adjusted to the learner’s needs and professional use of Spanish.

How is interactive learning supported?

A shared Google document is used as a virtual whiteboard, allowing real-time collaboration and saving all content for later review.

Do I need to buy textbooks?

No. All materials are provided digitally at no extra cost.

Can I try a lesson before committing?

For bespoke courses, we offer an initial session at £35 | $48 | €40 to assess the course’s suitability. In some cases, a free trial may be offered. If the student does not continue, no payment is required. If they do continue, the initial session counts as Lesson 1 of the first 10-week term. For scheduled courses, the first lesson is free if the student decides not to continue. If the student does continue, that first lesson counts as Lesson 1 of the 10-week course, and an invoice for the full course is issued only after the first lesson.

What is the group size for courses?

Scheduled groups have up to 6 participants. The same limit is recommended for bespoke groups.

How long is each session?

Scheduled sessions last 60 minutes. Bespoke sessions can be 60 or 90 minutes, depending on your needs.

Can lessons be cancelled or rescheduled?

Scheduled sessions cannot be rescheduled. For bespoke courses, lessons cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged. Rescheduling is possible within the same or following week if slots are available.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

You will receive a summary of the missed session by email. The shared Google document can also be reviewed for key content.

Is homework included?

Yes. Students are encouraged to spend at least 60 minutes per week on homework to reinforce learning.

Can my employer sponsor my course?

Yes. Training for professional teams and institutions is available on request.
