Description
Responsabilidad comercial is a six page C1 Legal Spanish lesson based on a Spanish Supreme Court case concerning liability for defective products and the distinction between the responsibility of the manufacturer and that of the distributor.
The central reading examines the Sentencia del Tribunal Supremo de 20 de julio de 2020 (STS 2492/2020), involving a defective hip prosthesis. Students encounter sophisticated Legal Spanish while considering the circumstances in which a distributor may be held responsible and the significance of identifying the manufacturer within the prescribed period.
The lesson develops advanced Legal Spanish through reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and discussion. Students work with terminology including responsabilidad objetiva, productor aparente, levantamiento del velo, responsabilidad solidaria, buena fe, actos propios, dolo, apariencia jurÃdica and grupo empresarial.
Grammar work focuses on nominalisation, passive and passive reflexive constructions, and conditional and temporal structures with si and cuando.
Students also complete activities before, during and after reading, contextual vocabulary practice and a final debate on distributor liability, corporate groups and objective liability. Complete answers are included.
The resource also includes access to Quizlet vocabulary practice to reinforce the key terminology used in the lesson.
Internet access is required to use the external Quizlet material. Quizlet requires a free account.
