Description

Biografía de un abogado colombiano is a free A2 Spanish resource designed to provide substantial practice of the pretérito indefinido through a combination of controlled grammar exercises and contextualised activities.

The resource begins with regular verbs. Rather than simply conjugating verbs from the infinitive, students are given different forms of the pretérito indefinido and identify the corresponding subject pronoun. This encourages learners to recognise the characteristic endings of the tense across different persons.

Students then move on to a substantial selection of irregular verbs, including tener, hacer, venir, estar, poner, poder, decir, saber, ir, andar, traer, querer, conducir, traducir, contener, pedir, dormir and ser. The exercise requires students to produce the appropriate form for a specified subject.

A third activity focuses specifically on orthographic changes in the first person singular, with verbs such as buscar, llegar, aparcar, equivocarse, jugar, cruzar, explicar, publicar, pagar, organizar, comenzar, empezar, obligar and averiguar.

The grammar is then placed into a professional context through the fictional biography of a Colombian lawyer. Students complete the biography using the correct forms of the pretérito indefinido while working with vocabulary connected with legal studies, international private law, international trade, arbitration and professional life.

The final activity changes context and introduces a more informal account of a holiday in Punta del Este. Students must decide whether the pretérito indefinido forms in the text are correct and replace incorrect forms with the appropriate conjugation. This gives learners practice identifying common errors as well as producing the correct forms themselves.

A complete answer key is included, making the resource suitable for classroom use, homework, revision and independent study.
