Description

A 5 page B2 Spanish lesson designed to develop grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening and speaking skills through the professional context of startup financing.

The lesson begins with a clear grammar reference covering the infinitive, participle and gerund, followed by five useful verbal periphrases: soler + infinitivo, ir + gerundio, seguir + gerundio, acabar por + infinitivo and tener + participio. Each structure is presented with contextualised examples drawn from professional and business Spanish.

Students then work with a text on startup funding rounds and the development of unicorn companies. The text introduces useful vocabulary connected with seed funding, investors, business growth, internationalisation, strategic alliances and the different stages of startup financing. Students identify the verbal periphrases studied and develop listening and reading comprehension skills through a series of questions.

A further grammar activity gives students extensive practice using the five verbal periphrases in a range of professional contexts, including investment, legal work, human resources, consultancy and business management.

The lesson concludes with seven discussion questions exploring startup financing, external investment, unicorn valuations, international expansion, business values and the ethical responsibilities of startups and investors.

Complete answers are included, making the resource suitable both for teacher led lessons and independent study.

This resource is designed for Spanish language learning at B2 level. Business and financial topics provide the context for practising Spanish and are not intended as professional or financial advice.
