Description
A complete A2 Spanish lesson for practising the pretérito imperfecto through the history and development of a fictional infrastructure company, Autovías.
The lesson begins with a clear grammar reference covering the regular forms of the imperfect, the three irregular verbs ser, ir and ver, and four common uses of the tense. Students then apply the grammar to a contextualised text about the fictional company Autovías.
Students practise identifying verbs in the imperfect and distinguishing their different uses before working with a particularly useful A2 contrast: how things were before and how they are now, combining the imperfect with the present tense.
A further matching activity develops the use of the imperfect to describe background situations and simultaneous actions in the past, with structures such as cuando, mientras and durante el período en que.
The lesson finishes with a freer production task in which students choose a company and prepare a short presentation describing what it was like in the past using the imperfect. Complete answers are provided.
