Description
A substantial 9 page B1 Spanish lesson developing vocabulary, reading, listening, grammar and oral production through the professional and administrative context of immigration, nationality and residency.
Students begin with linked vocabulary practice and a contextualised exercise covering useful terms such as Extranjería, cónyuge, patria potestad, validez, otorgar, concesión, título, sefardí and separados de hecho.
The lesson then includes an extended reading comprehension about different routes to Spanish nationality. Students work with a substantial text before answering ten multiple choice questions, providing meaningful practice with formal and administrative Spanish.
A separate listening activity focuses on the NIE and the distinction between identification, residence and work permissions. Students answer ten verdadero, falso o no se menciona questions, with the complete transcript provided at the end of the resource.
Students also complete a specially created practice NIE application form. The form is clearly identified as a classroom practice document rather than an official form and allows students to apply administrative vocabulary in a realistic task.
The grammar section provides a detailed explanation of the pretérito perfecto and pretérito indefinido, concentrating on the distinction between open and completed time periods. It also examines the position of nunca in negative sentences.
Three grammar activities provide extensive practice choosing between the two past tenses, forming the pretérito perfecto and correcting sentences containing nunca.
The lesson finishes with an online research and oral presentation task in which students investigate nationality requirements in a country and prepare a short presentation. Complete answers and the listening transcript are included.
This is a Spanish language learning resource. Immigration and citizenship provide the context for developing Spanish vocabulary, comprehension and grammar. The resource is not intended to teach immigration law or provide legal, legislative or professional advice.
